"Why," you ask? Because we want profile pages to have freedom of customization, but also to have some consistency. This way, when anyone visits a deviant, they know they can always find the art in the top left, and personal info in the top right.

I always behave just ask Stori, he knows me well. To you too and anyone else, how to use the smiley people and when/where do I see my submissions. It sure takes a long time to go thru the process. Is there a quicker way?
Well, each emoticon each has its own coding. You type it and when you submit the comment, it will show as the emote you coded for. The codes for all the emotes are listed in the Emoticon Legend which, lucky for you new users nowadays, is linked from every text commenting box on dA. Just look for the link when you comment, you'll start memorizing them and trying to use them on AIM by accident before you realize they don't work there.
Anyways, submitting artwork - to your upper left hand corner of your deviantART screen, you'll see a button labeled 'Submit' with a neutral colored arrow. Hit it, and follow instructions, choosing the category and subcategories of artwork. Also, make sure you check dA policy on what is to be labeled as mature content or not before you decide its not mature enough to be labeled as such. Include a title and artist's description as its requested of you and then the writing and/or images, and then your submisson will be complete. You'll see what I mean as you go through it, the steps will guide you with instructions.
